Susan Granger’s DVD update for week of Fri., Oct.28:

Vampire movies are now the most popular kind of horror film and Limelight Editions just released a revised, updated edition of “The Vampire Film,” the most extensive and insightful book on vampire cinema, chronicling vampire films of all eras….perfect for this upcoming Halloween weekend.

The National Geographic series “Nazi Hunters” tells how a select band of secret agents and avengers hunted down some of the most evil men in history – and brought them to justice. Every episode tells the story of one intense mission – from Klaus Barbie’s pursuit in Bolivia to the audacious Mossad operation to kidnap Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires.

Srdjan Spasojevic’s incendiary “A Serbian Film” is a highly controversial release with content considered too provocative for Netflix but available in stores and on-line.

“Imagine It!” is a creative documentary designed to inspire kids to use creativity with science, encouraging young people to think outside the box and use their imagination to change the world.

“America: The Story of Us” is a riveting 12-part adventure of how America was invented: the people, the places, the ideas, covering 400 years of our country’s history from the linking of the continent by wagon trails to the transcontinental railway to landing on the moon.

Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s “To Catch a Thief,” the iconic ‘60s TV spy series “It Takes a Thief” stars Robert Wagner, and the collectible 18-disc set contains all 66 digitally remastered episodes, along with lots of bonus features.

For family viewing, Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh” recreates the classic A.A. Milne characters – Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Little Roo – in a new adventure in the Hundred Acre Wood.

From Scholastic Storybook Treasures and Weston Woods Studios, there’s “The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog…and More Stories by Mo Willems,” helping kids enhance reading, cooperation and problem-solving skills in an enjoyable and entertaining way….along with “Teeny Tiny and the Witch-Woman – and More Spooky Halloween Stories.”

PICK OF THE WEEK: “Captain America: the First Avenger” is a solid, stylish superhero saga and it’s the last in the individual, interconnected Marvel prequels, following “Iron Man,” “The Hulk” and “Thor,” leading up to next summer’s star-studded “The Avengers.”
